The Sunken Planes of The Exuma Cays

    Normans Cay

Normans Cay Sunken Plane of The Exuma CaysNormans Cay was once a popular spot for drug smugglers, and its abandoned planes are now a favorite attraction for snorkelers and divers. The submerged planes include a DC-3 and a Beechcraft, both of which are easily accessible for snorkelers. These planes have become artificial reefs, attracting a variety of marine life such as colorful fish, lobsters, and even sharks. The clear waters and excellent visibility make for an unforgettable snorkeling experience.

    North End of Compass Cay

The north end of Compass Cay is another popular spot for plane wreck snorkeling, as the area is home to a submerged airplane known as “the Lost Plane.” This plane is a Grumman Widgeon, a vintage amphibious aircraft that was used by the US Navy during World War II. The plane was intentionally sunk in 2003, and since then has become a popular attraction for snorkelers. One can expect to see colorful schools of fish, lobsters, and various coral encrustations.

    Staniel Cay

Staniel Cay is one of the most popular islands in the Exuma Cays, and is home to one of the most iconic sunken planes in the region. The plane is a vintage Convair CV-440, which served as a passenger plane in the 1950s and 60s. It was intentionally sunk in the 1990s to create an artificial reef and has since become a home for a variety of marine life. Snorkelers can expect to see a diverse range of fish species, such as yellowtail snappers, angelfish, and parrotfish. The plane is one of the Group Tour stops.

South of Farners Cay near Rudders Cay

The South of Farmers Cay near Rudders Cay is one of the hidden gems of the Bahamas. This area features crystal-clear waters, stunning coral reefs, and abundant marine life, making it an ideal location for snorkeling and diving. One of the most popular attractions in this area is David Copperfield island, where a sunken plane has become a popular spot for snorkeling. You can expect to see a wide variety of marine life. The area is known for its colorful fish, such as sergeant majors, butterfly fish, and parrotfish. It is also common to spot turtles, rays, and even the occasional shark. The coral reefs in the area are also a wonder to behold, with a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors.
